| Grammar lesson: for versus since Grammar lesson: for versus since For and since both express a period of time, but the between them is the difference in the time reference. For is always followed by a number (something you can count) - for 2 weeks, for 20 minutes, for eight years… I worked in Berlin for 6 months after graduating from university. I've been studying English for 2 years. Why are you so late? I've been waiting for 30 minutes! Since this is followed by a year, noun, or phrase. It is generally used with a perfect tense. Ed's been working in my office since January. I 've been living in Dubai since 2004. It's been a long time since I've seen my mother.
